Abstract

Upper gastrointestinal (GI) bleed can occur from arterial or venous sources. We present an unusual case of bleeding in the stomach from hypertrophied arterial collaterals in a case of chronic splenic artery occlusion. The patient underwent an endoscopy and glue injection but rebleed later. Computed tomography showed arterial collaterals in the stomach wall due to splenic artery occlusion. We embolised the collaterals via an endovascular route followed by splenectomy. This case emphasizes the importance of recognizing this unusual cause of upper GI hemorrhage for proper management and prevention of recurrence.
